Online Time Management is Critical for Success

Time Management is Not Hard

It takes discipline. Just as with everything else in life you need proper balance and efficient time management. And in the new world (technology based) your Online Time Management is vitally important.

We are living in technological revolution that is being driven by social media. There are so many cool sites to hang out on, socialize with our friends, play games that it is very easy to become distracted. Being social and hanging out with our friends coupled with simply getting side tracked surfing the net can spell disaster.

Don’t get me wrong, to effectively market online we need to interact and build our social equity, that is our social influence and network of groups. However, we need to ensure that we are efficient with the way we spend our time online. Employers in this new era are even more savvy to the fact that their employees are “wasting time” online and Online Entrepreneurs are getting lost in the web of social networks.

So what is one to do? How do you avoid information overload, online distractions, emails and all of the other cool things out there? How do you keep from wondering off into an hourly deficit?

You need to train yourself in “Online Time Management”.

Online Time Managment takes practice and it starts with developing a workable and realistic schedule. If 90% of your business is online then it is essential that you incorporate a daily schedule. And if you are an entrepreneur this is even more vital.

The first thing you need to do is use a “Day Planner” or an online application such as Microsoft Outlook or even something as simple as Google Calendar. Begin by looking at the days in your week. Identify the days in which you have a recurring action item and then schedule it. What time of the day are you most productive? Reserve this time (block out the time on your calendar) every day. My most productive time is in the morning. I block out every morning from 9:30 -11:30 to get some of my most important work done.

During this time I turn off my phone, close down email and remove all other distractions. This is just one example but you get my point. Designate time slots for your activities. Save your social interactions / facbooking / twittering etc…for the end of the day. Check your email 3x per day vs every 30 mins. Let people know, politely, when you have things to do and tell them you will call them back.

We are just getting started here and there is a lot more to come but I hope this get’s you thinking a bit differently about
